In June 2017 I had to go to the hospital because I was coughing up blood and junk from my lung(s) – I believe it was my left lung because I had a pneumonia in that one in 1996 and had to have procedures and surgery on that in early 1997.
So while I was in the hospital and they were working on the new problem I apparently had heart failure and they determined I had at least two heart attack but I don’t know when the heart attacks happened. They never really said.
How did it save my life?
When I finally got out of the hospital I had things to do and no money or working vehicle. I had to learn to “get by” and get help from anywhere I could. I did get general relief from the county and then finally got social security but that took months. I do realize that some people have a harder time getting help and I’m thankful that I got the money/help when I did because I had no vehicle to get to the doctor appointments and I did have to take the bus, taxi, rides from my moms friends. I finally got a used vehicle after almost seven months (Aug. 2017 – March 2018) and selling everything that I could that wasn’t working.
Thanksgiving and Christmas 2017 were not good but I’m just glad my mom & I had good food to eat.
In April 2018 our refrigerator messed up so bad we needed another one and I didn’t want another used one so I got a new fridge in April. Then in May my laptop quit working, wouldn’t let me login and I had to get a new laptop.
Without the money from Social Security I would not have been able to do any of the things that needed to be done properly. My mom who is on disability wouldn’t have been able to pay for these things and still pay rent, bills, buy food, etc. So without the money from Social Security my mom and I would have been in trouble. I’m sure there would have been some kind of help from people she knows in her church but I wasn’t counting on that myself. It was hard enough just trying to get rides for things we had to do. I wouldn’t expect any help to get a fridge or a laptop.
